We recommend purchasing a combination of hard and soft pressing pads. Drying time varies considerably, from 2 to 5 days. Some flowers such as pansies are relatively easy to dry as they are thin and flat. Others we have learned are nearly impossible to dry as they may have a waxy constitution. Stacking is possible, but we recommend hard flat surfaces (we use pieces of plywood cut to approximately 16" x 20") placed every 3-4 stacks of pads As soon as flowers are dried, we recommend placing them in our preservation packets that contain a special drying pad. Vacuum sealing machines can be purchased to keep flowers from reabsorbing moisture. To press the flowers any weight in the range of 35- 50 pounds will do the job nicely. One can buy a special press, but they can be costly and do not do any better job than old fashioned gravity. Rubber straps can work, but again we press simply using weight for a better flat press.
